Support for relatives as an integral part of the rehabilitation programmes

Center for Rehabilitation of Brain Injury offers various kinds of support for relatives as an integral part of the rehabilitation programmes. We have groups for relatives of current as well as previous programme participants, including a group specifically targeting young relatives of persons with acquired brain injury.

The aim of the relatives’ groups is to discus each individual relative’s personal experience of the novel situation as well as to discus how acquired brain injury has affected the family and how the family members’ lives have changed. The psychologists in charge of the groups will usually make informative, psycho-educational contributions to the group on various topics, e.g. types of injury and typical consequences, changes in personality and affect, reaction to crisis, coping strategies and changes in roles and communication in the family.
